Davis DC: A New P.R.

Yesterday's Davis Double Century was fantastic! Great weather, felt great ... even got to ride most of the day with fixed-gear god Peter Burnett! By the end of the day, I had set a new personal record for riding the DC on a fixed gear: 13 hours, 8 minutes. That's an hour faster than last year! Peter and I were hanging with tandems and pacelines at 24-25 miles per hour over the last 50 miles. Fitness is looking good for the Big Fix!

5-20-06: Just Back From the Davis Double

They threw more and steeper climbing at us, but I still set a new P.R. for riding the Davis Double Fixed--just a shade over 13 hours (even with 7,800 feet of elevation gain and a new, steep section up Cobb Mountain).
Big Fix jerseys abounded--here are five BG riders at the first rest stop. Campy Only Guy is there in the middle.
Four weeks to the Big Fix!

DC Prep

May 18, 2006--Last ride before Saturday's Davis Double Century--37 miles in the Napa Valley. The vines are leafing out, and everything in the valley is (for now) green. Great weather--even a little cool toward the end of the ride at about 8 p.m.

The Heat is On!

Yes, hot weather has finally arrived in Northern California. We enjoyed temps in the low 90s on today's ride from Winters to St Helena--an 86-mile round trip with a few thousand feet of climbing. Bike of choice today was our Quickbeam, with 72 gear inches. More photos here

Gearly Ride to Pope Valley

Yes, we took a gearly bike today. But our Richard Sachs was just looking so lonely and forlorn ... Anyway, about 80 miles of up and down stuff from near Winters to the Pope Valley story. check out the images to see an aerial of most of the route and an elevation profile. Big Fix is in 6 weeks + 6 days!

Devil Mountain Double

April 29, 2006--We rode the Devil Mountain Double Century, a 208-mile ride with more than 19,000 of climbing. NO ... we did not do it on a fixed-gear bicycle. Photos are here
Despite using a "gearly" bike, it was great training for the Big Fix. Next big ride is the Davis Double on the 20th of May.
