Day Three: Additional

Still can't post photos, but the latest news from the ride is that Paolo was awarded the "Hard as Nails" prize tonight by the first HAN recipient, Ike. Paolo was suffering mightily yesterday, but rebounded tremendously and put in a very strong performance. Ike won the award yesterday for his own perseverance.
The "HAN" is an actual nail, which was extracted (with pliers) from Bo's rear wheel yesterday. The nail had gone through the tire and into the rim, effectively nailing his tire down. Bo needed to boot both the tire and rim to get back on the road.
Also noteworthy today was the continued onslaught of the Mormon crickets, which were pretty much everywhere in Austin.
Tomorrow: On to Ely and (hopefully) more photos from the ride!

What is it about Bo with nails? Remember on the Terrible 1-1/2 last year? Not even 10 miles into the ride, and he's got a nail through and through!
Caution:Watch out for crack propogation from the hole.

BIG FIX Advance Route Research Department Alert:
I've been studying several maps closely. It looks to me like the Day6-route south from Beaver requires one of three things: a) we ride 14 miles on dirt frontage rd, or b) we ride 14 miles south on Interstate 15, or c) we all get a sag-ahead ride in cars to the jnction of I-15 and rte 20. The frontage Rd is dirt (not an option IMHO) and Fremont Rd (exit 100) is dirt. I will scout in person when I arrive Wednesday and report - we can discuss options then.
